Dr. Chen has been recognized as a Top Doctor by Washingtonian magazine (2026) and as one of Castle Connolly's Exceptional Women in Medicine since 2024. She is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, an active member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and holds a subspecialty (CAQ) certification in hand surgery.

She received her medical degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, where she was inducted into the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Society, then completed an integrated plastic surgery residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. During residency, Dr. Chen spent an additional year in the basic science laboratory investigating whole-eye microsurgical allotransplantation, and she pursued elective training in gender affirming surgery at Mount Sinai and Oregon Health and Science University. At UCLA, Dr. Chen completed a hand and microsurgery fellowship.
